Order & rental

A PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) is an individual distress transmitter that relays your position to rescue centres via the worldwide Cospas-Sarsat satellite network. It is the most reliable safety device to be located in distress, at sea or ashore.

Durations are fixed (15 d / 1 / 3 / 6 months). For special needs (1 year, expedition project), contact us for a custom quote.

Yes. All our beacons are registered with the French distress beacon registry under Global SAR Hub. Your trip details are linked to the beacon throughout the rental.

Insurance & warranty

Essential insurance (technical failures) is included by default. Serenity insurance (+€1/day) is optional but recommended for committing activities.

With Serenity: no charge. Without: replacement value (€390 PLB1, €640 PLB3, €180 MOB1, €320 VHF, €1,290 Iridium).

Triggering & emergency

The signal is received by Cospas-Sarsat satellites within 5 min, decoded at the Toulouse MCC, forwarded to the relevant rescue centre which contacts our 24/7 SAR line and mobilises rescue assets.

20 to 60 min in the NW Mediterranean, 30 to 90 min coastal Atlantic, 4 to 12 h in deep offshore. In the mountains: 30 to 90 min in the Alps.

Switch the beacon off immediately, call the rescue centre (196 in France, or VHF channel 16), warn ResQRent on the SAR line. Cancellation is quick if done without delay.

In France, rescue is free except in cases of gross negligence or reckless behaviour. Abroad, private protocols (GEOS) may charge depending on the country.

Return & end of rental

A prepaid return label is included in the parcel. Repack the beacon using the return packaging and drop it off at a Mondial Relay or post office.

Yes, at any time. No pro-rata refund, however.

3-day grace period. Beyond that, pro-rata billing applies and the beacon is considered lost after 30 days.

Freshwater rinsing is recommended for sea water. No chemicals, no disassembly. We take care of deep cleaning and self-test.

Technical & regulation

Yes. The Cospas-Sarsat network is global. Return must be made in mainland France (current service scope).

No. PLBs are designed to be used on the surface. Water resistance (15 m for PLB1, IP67+ for PLB3) protects against incidents, not active diving.

PLB: personal, 406 MHz Cospas-Sarsat. EPIRB: boat, 406 MHz with possible auto-triggering. MOB AIS: local AIS 4-6 NM. Read our dedicated guide.

Yes. AES-256 encryption at rest, consultation by SAR pros tracked in log, deleted 30 days after the end of the rental (GDPR).

Division 240 mandates an EPIRB for offshore sailing (>60 NM). A PLB is recommended everywhere. No mandatory rule in the mountains, but strongly advised by the PGHM.
